The festival of Sant Medir is one of the most deeply rooted in the town of Gràcia. It is known mainly for the tons of candies and candies that are thrown to the public from horses, floats and trucks. In the morning, a parade of colles is organized around the neighborhood and a pilgrimage begins to the chapel of Sant Medir , in Collserola, where there is a group to honor the saint. Returning, the same colles head a great parade through the main streets of the neighborhood and distribute the sweets among the public, which is prepared with bags, buckets and umbrellas to collect as many as you can.

The celebration in homage to San Medir continues, still. La Bordeta and Sant Gervasi also organize parades, with the participation of their own colles , and the pilgrimage to the hermitage. Once in the hermitage, the group is organized in honor of the saint, with a mass and the act of placing of commemorative laces on the flag of each colla . Anyway, the Bordeta neighborhood organizes its celebration on the Sunday after the party.

The tradition is that Sant Medir will be held on a working day, both in Gràcia and Sarrià-Sant Gervasi, so if March 3 falls on a Sunday, the party moves to day 4. In La Bordeta, on the other hand, the parade always takes place on the Sunday following the festival.

If the words: “free sweets” sound like music to your ears, then brace yourself for this epic parade between Carrer de San Salvador and Gran de Gràcia, in the Gracia district. The procession is a Mardis Gras of sorts and an occasion where an obscene amount of free sweets are thrown out to the crowds lining the route. It’s more fondly known as La festa més dolça (the Sweetest Festival) so if you have a sweet tooth, you should definitely jet into the city to celebrate this one.
